Chauntal’s Success
Our friends at Family Promise of Hendricks County are celebrating the beautiful success story of Chauntal, a shining example of resilience, hard work, and what true stability can look like when a community comes together.
They first met Chauntal in 2018 when she was sleeping on a bench outside the big-box store where she worked in Hendricks County. Despite the hardship she faced as a teenager experiencing homelessness, she was already employed and determined to build a better future.
Chauntal entered and successfully graduated from our residential shelter program, moving into her own home in January 2021. Next month, she will celebrate five years in the same home—a remarkable milestone for anyone emerging from homelessness, and one she has earned through dedication and perseverance.
Since then, she has held steady employment, often with more consistency than many adults twice her age. For the past four years, she has excelled as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Plainfield, where she’s frequently called in for extra shifts because her team knows they can always count on her.
What makes her story even more inspiring is that Chauntal is not only maintaining stability—she’s building a future. Two years ago, she began contributing to a 401(k) through her employer. Only a tiny percentage of Family Promise’s clients take this step and seeing her invest in her long-term financial security fills them with pride.
Chauntal is the reason Family Promise does the work they do. She represents the hundreds of individuals and families who have journeyed from homelessness to stability through determination and support. Her story is a reminder of what’s possible—and why our mission matters every day.
We remain proud partners of Family Promise of Hendricks County!
This was a sign Family Promise placed in front of their old office to celebrate her. Chauntal recently celebrated her 27th birthday.
